Amazon has refused further production of the series "Jean-Claude Van Johnson", in which the main role was played by actor Jean-Claude Van Damme. It is reported by Deadline. The project was closed just a month after the release of the first season.
Recall that the plot of the show was built around a martial artist and an action hero who returns from voluntary resignation to become an undercover mercenary named Jean-Claude. It also starred Moises Arias, Filisia Rashad, Bar Pali, Tate Fletcher and other actors.
In addition to "Jean-Claude Van Johnson", Amazon will also not extend the shooting of the series "I love Dick." In both cases, the reasons are not specified.
It is possible that the company wants to concentrate its resources on producing a truly large-scale show that will allow it to compete on equal terms with giants such as Netflix and HBO. Such a project could be a series based on The Lord of the Rings and other works that take place in Middle-earth.
Amazon acquired film rights from the Tolkien Heirs Fund. The amount of the transaction is estimated at 250 million dollars.
